A surprising twist on a classic cocktail is a delicious way to raise the bar from Brooke Parkhurst and James Briscione, authors of Just Married and Cooking: 200 Recipes for Living, Eating, and Entertaining Together.
Serves 2
INGREDIENTS
1 lime
3 fresh basil leaves
1 teaspoon granulated sugar
3 ounces vodka
ice cubes
club soda
Cut the lime in half, then cut each half into 4 wedges. Reserve 2 wedges for garnish. Place the remaining 6 pieces of lime in a cocktail shaker; add the basil leaves and sugar. Muddle until the sugar is dissolved.
Pour in the vodka, fill the shaker with ice, and shake to chill thoroughly. Fill 2 rocks glasses with ice cubes. Strain the vodka into the glasses, garnish each with a lime wedge, and top with a splash of soda.
