4 Strategies for Diffusing Anger and Reducing Stress

Carrying around unnecessary stress and anger will only hurt you: mentally and physically. Here are some simple tips from Jeffrey Wands, successful psychic medium and author of Knock and the Door Will Open.

1. Don’t take it personally.
People are carrying around their own anger and resentments, and what you need to remember is that when they let it out, it’s not about you. It’s about them. Furthermore, when bad things happen — as they will — they are not directed at you personally. The driver did not speed through the puddle in order to splash you; you just happened to be standing in the way of the splash.

2. Don’t respond.
If someone is venting his or her anger at you, take a step back, remind yourself that it’s not about you, and don’t continue the argument. The temptation is always to defend ourselves, but that’s only going to prolong the angry conversation. You probably won’t win and you’ll only be taking on anger that wasn’t yours to begin with.

3. Learn to be more tolerant.
Try not to sweat the small stuff. If you let every little irritant get to you, you’ll be carrying more stress than you need to. I like to tell people that they need to stop acting like a bellhop and put down all that baggage they’re carrying around.

4. Learn that you can’t fix every problem.
You’re not Atlas and you can’t carry the weight of the world on your shoulders. If someone else is having a problem, remind yourself that it’s her problem and you’re not required to take on her burden.
