Newlywed Recipes: From Royal to Realistic

Just Married and Cooking authors Brooke Parkhurst and James BriscionePrince William may not win Top Chef, but he can create food fit for royalty with simple recipes from Just Married and Cooking: 200 Recipes for Living, Eating, and Entertaining Together, written by newlywed culinary power couple Brooke Parkhurst (A Belle in the Big Apple) and James Briscione (two-time champion of the Food Network’s Chopped), out May 10.

Wills and his beloved, Kate Middleton, revealed in their post-engagement interview that cooking as a couple didn’t always produce the most delicious results. “When I was trying to impress Kate, I was trying to cook these amazing, fancy dinners and what would happen was I would burn something, something would overspill, something would catch on fire…” Prince William told ITV News’ Tom Bradby.

What Maid?
But if palace sources are to be believed, William and Kate will have to cook–and do the dishes–just like you and I. While the heir to the throne finishes his search and rescue pilot training on the remote Isle of Anglesey in North Wales, the couple will live in a rented cottage and make do without any servants. The future King and Queen of England are on their own for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

So, the question on everyone’s mind is: Once the wedding cake has been sliced, the honeymoon is over, the suitcases are unpacked (we know they won’t have any gifts to open), what’s for dinner?

Foolproof Feasts
Parkhurst and Briscione share a few hints and their favorite recipes for the Prince and Princess from Just Married and Cooking, out May 10.

“Protein is a must,” says Parkhurst. “Vegetables are nice and slipping in pasta or a grain will stretch the meal from one day to the next. Simplicity–and following the seasons–is key.”

Just Married and Cooking is about keeping things creative, playful, and even a little sexy, in the kitchen. Making easy, elegant dinners together can transform a regular Tuesday night into an occasion.

For an everyday dinner recipe perfectly suited to princely tastes (and, er, skill level), they recommend their recipe for Ground Chicken and Green Curry Vegetable Roast. By working together, Wills and Kate can have a healthy, delicious dinner on the table in less than twenty minutes, allowing the newlyweds more time at the dinner table than in the kitchen.

Or, for something extra creamy and delicious, go straight to Just Married and Cooking‘s Whole-Wheat Pappardelle with Butternut Squash and Blue Cheese recipe. This dish is as quick, luxurious, and flavorful as they come.
